Methodology
BrandFactual records facts about brands, not opinions. Every fact links to the source it came from and the date we retrieved it.
Where the facts come from
- Official website
- The brand's own website, including its country versions as declared by the site itself (hreflang), its official social accounts, phone numbers, email addresses and warranty pages.
- Authorized dealers
- The dealer locator published on the brand's official website. We list a dealer only when the brand itself lists it.
- Ownership
- Public trademark registers, starting with the US register (USPTO). A trademark holder is usually the company that owns the brand, but it can be a regional subsidiary or a licensee, so we show it as what it is: the registered holder.
Verification levels
- Collected automatically
- Taken from an official source by our software and checked by automated rules. This is the level of most facts today, and each brand page says so.
- Reviewed
- A person has checked the fact against its source, or two independent sources agree.
- Confirmed by the brand
- The brand has confirmed the fact to us.
What we do not do
- We do not rate or rank brands, and we do not publish reviews.
- We do not name unauthorized sellers.
- We publish company contact channels only, never personal contact details.
- Brands cannot pay to change their facts.
Corrections
Send corrections to contact@brandfactual.com with a source for the correct fact. A corrected fact keeps a record of the change.
How we collect
Our crawler respects robots.txt, waits several seconds between requests to the same website and identifies itself. It does not try to get around a website's bot protection. Details are on our crawler page.
